Part of the ongoing effort to conserve water entails replacing older high water using devices and fixtures with new ones that are more water efficient.  Because of this, some water agencies host distribution events where the public has a chance to exchange their old device with a new improved device at little to no cost. Throughout the years, WaterWise has implemented many distribution events on behalf of water agencies and is familiar with the various aspects involved.  WaterWise has distributed tens of thousands of water saving devices including Weather-Based Irrigation Controllers (WBICs) and High Efficiency Toilets (HETs).

For these events, WaterWise assumes (unless otherwise requested by the participating agency) responsibility for the implementation of the program and makes the appropriate preparations to ensure a successful event.  The following is an abbreviated outline of the tasks involved in completing such a project.

Meeting with water agency.
Selecting a location for the event.
Marketing the distribution event.
Coordinating all logistics during event days.
Maintaining accurate inventory of all devices.
Providing quality customer service.
Providing quality control, such as ensuring participants of the event are meeting all terms and conditions set forth by the water agency.
Recycling of old devices whenever possible in order to minimize waste going to landfills.
Providing inspections of installed devices (if required by the participating agency).
Tracking the event through an Excel database.
Accurately reporting event results to the water agency.

WaterWise still sees these events as a viable way to distribute an agency’s devices through an organized event. Some agencies still prefer to distribute their HETs and WBIC’s in one event rather than having to worry about a rebating process throughout the year. Furthermore, if the water agency chooses to work with a Community Based Organization (CBO), it can help raise funds for worthy causes. WaterWise is still one of the few consulting firms that is equipped to implement this type of event.
