A Dog Day in the Park

Not everyone likes dogs and not everyone has dogs. Susette Horspool, WaterWise's Business Development Coordinator, likes but does not have dogs. However, she does have an interest in volunteering, and she recently volunteered to represent WaterWise at an event organized by Chino Basin Water Conservation District (CBWCD), "A Dog Day in the Park."

CBWCD organized the event, held on May 15th, in honor of Water Awareness Month. They hosted it at their own facility in Montclair in order to showcase the wonderful, drought tolerant demonstration garden they had built, and to highlight the fact that the garden is also pet friendly.

Dogs of all shapes and sizes participated in the event, as did their humans. There were paths to wander, ancient oaks and new fences to mark, and many exhibitor booths for humans to buy goodies. There were even contests and a raffle to enter for prizes. Susette sold raffle tickets at the entrance, petted every dog that entered the event, and helped distribute contest prizes.

The raffle and other events raised hundreds of dollars for Inland Valley Humane Society, Priceless Pets, and Rancho Cucamonga Animal Care & Services. Petco, the event co-sponsor, also raised funds for pet cancer awareness month.

CBWCD’s drought tolerant garden and ancient oak trees (including one 200-400 years old) can be viewed at 4594 San Bernardino Street in Montclair. The facilities are open to the public from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., seven days a week.
