Technical Advice

WaterWise staff has functioned as technical advisor for several water agencies in implementing water conservation programs. Some duties performed included but were not limited to the following:

  • Representing Metropolitan at water and green industry meetings
  • Evaluate proposals
  • Write and prepare contracts
  • Create and maintain project databases
  • Evaluate data and quality control issues
  • Track site water-use data
  • Generate water-use reports
  • Generate cost analysis reports
  • Inspect sites for irrigation retrofits (pre and post inspection)
  • Evaluate new technology

WaterWise has used its expertise in irrigation technology to provide assistance in evaluating new technology for the water and green industries on the projects listed below.

New Technology (Pilot Programs)
WaterWise staff was responsible for analyzing innovative technology, which had significant water conservation potential. Main factors examined for each program were installation costs, maintenance requirements, customer satisfaction, ease of use, durability, and verifiable water savings.

Innovative Conservation Program
Metropolitan offered the Innovative Conservation Program, which allocated funds for any new and innovative technologies in water conservation. WaterWise staff served as an evaluator and participated in selecting the grant recipients for the Innovative Conservation Program

Contractor’s Certification Program
WaterWise staff was an evaluator for Municipal Water District of Orange County’s Contractor’s Certification Program. This program offered an innovative way of tracking water use for landscape sites. This new program offered certification and promotion to businesses, contractors, and property managers who met their respective water budgets for the sites they were managing.

Conservation Credits
WaterWise staff played a key role in Metropolitan’s Conservation Credits Program. This program offered financial incentives to owners of large landscapes to retrofit their irrigation system and improve irrigation efficiency. Water-use data tracking in these types of projects was essential, because the subsidy or conservation credit given to the end-user was based on the data contained in the report.

Protector del Agua (PDA)
WaterWise was instrumental in evaluating the PDA program and making the necessary changes to make it a leaner and smoother running program. WaterWise was also selected to develop three new classes under the auspices of PDA. This project also included producing all classes into videotape format for use by Metropolitan’s member agencies.
