  Homeowner Series

WaterWise Consulting, Inc. proudly introduces its new Gardener Series, a set of classes designed especially for homeowners who desire water efficient gardens. Since they are specifically tailored toward homeowners, the classes are presented in a simple and user-friendly manner, foregoing any technical jargon. The purpose is to provide simple, yet effective water saving plans to the general public.

In California, WaterWise instructors have taught hundreds of classes to thousands of participants. WaterWise is the premier class development and training firm for Metropolitan Water District's California Friendly Landscape Training Program. WaterWise brings its vast experience to each class in the Homeowner Series.

All classes within the Homeowner Series are standalone components. Each class has been designed to provide homeowners with the most helpful and practical information possible. The participant benefits by gaining knowledge to implement water conservation practices in their landscape. As an agency, you benefit by providing your customers with one of the best residential training programs in California. The classes that make up the series include:

Garden Design Concepts

This class will show participants the importance of implementing a design program when installing or renovating their garden. The class focuses on design concepts and ideas for creating a water efficient garden, including selection of plants and materials.

Garden Design Applications

This class will teach participants how to conduct a thorough site analysis, develop accurate plot plans, and effectively use overlays and construction details. These topics are essential when designing a
green and healthy garden.

Irrigation Basics for Homeowners

This class is designed for homeowners who are interested in learning more about the installation and maintenance of a residential irrigation system. Participants will learn about the components and layout of the irrigation system, common irrigation problems, and basic maintenance.

Drought Tolerant Plants

This class is designed to teach homeowners the importance of using less water and drought tolerant plant materials in their
gardens. Homeowners will become familiar with various trees, shrubs, and groundcovers
that are readily available and well suited for water efficient gardens.

Irrigation Scheduling & Maintenance Guidelines

This class will provide participants with an easy method to develop watering schedules for their gardens. The class will also provide practical guidelines and tips for amending
soils, fertilizing, and other general maintenance related items. The four main scheduling concepts taught are weather,
plants, soils, and irrigation systems.

Smart Controller Concepts

This class is designed to introduce residents to new technology that allows for more
accurate control of irrigation schedules. With the advent of Smart Controllers, residents
have the ability to follow weather patterns that affect their gardens and landscapes.

Smart Gardening

This class combines the pertinent information of four popular topics into one class.
Participants will get a basic understanding of Garden Design Concepts, Drought Tolerant Plants, Irrigation Basics for
Homeowners, and Irrigation Scheduling and Maintenance.

Horticultural Practices

This class covers the fundamentals of horticulture. It will provide the participants with an understanding of plant care and maintenance that they can use in their garden to make it more water efficient.

These classes may be offered to your customers as a complete series or they can be customized to better fit your agency's needs. Your agency has the option to decide what combination of classes is right for you.

Each class has a runtime of approzimately four hours. All classes include professional instruction, class handbooks, hands-on exercises on current green-industry practices and a PowerPoint presentation, which may include 3-D graphics, animation and video clips. WaterWise instructors have strong landscape, horticulture and irrigation backgrounds and are happy to help your customers learn water saving techniques.

For the optimal learning environment, WaterWise recommends keeping class sizes small, at a maximum of 30 people. Smaller class sizes are useful for meeting individual needs as well as the needs of the whole class. Larger classes are an option, but smaller classes are ideal.
